I Want To Be A Star – In All My Job Interviews

April 30th, 2009

At the age of fifty-something, I lost my job.  My company, here in Oklahoma City, was very pleasant when they notified me that I was not being fired, just laid off.  But, you know what? The end result is identical. The bottom line is I am without a job, not currently working, and I almost forgot, seeking employment.

I began my journey to a new job by updating my resume (there was some dusting off involved but I finally got it ready to go).  Next, I got the resume out to as many potential employers as possible. But, I bet you can guess what follows getting your quality resume out there?  That’s right! You are then called in for an interview.  Another journey I hadn’t taken in 36 years.

I arrived on time for my first interview (I would hope so!).  I sat down with a smiling Human Resources woman who said that she had a few questions for me and she would be taking some notes as I was answering them.

And so we began.  She was asking questions that, at first blush, seemed relatively easy to answer.  I noticed quickly, however, that she would often re-package the question and toss it back to me, even though I felt I had already answered it.  The questions dragged on forever, it seemed.  In fact, a lot of the time the “question” didn’t seem like a question at all but rather it was phrased like this, “Give me an example of a time when you …”.  I left the interview feeling frustrated and a little unnerved.  I was prepared to answer questions like, “Why did you leave your last position?”, “Do you have a strong sales background” or “How often did you figure the sales commissions at your last job?”  No such luck!  These questions never came up.  What were these people looking for anyway?  Couldn’t they trust that I would give them 110% if they would just give me a chance?  The answer:  I guess not!

I went home and, as I had with my resume writing, I looked for information on what makes a good (might I say great?) interview.I would like to share with all of you what I found out.  Information that would have been good one short interview ago.  Here goes:

Employers want you to answer questions in the STAR format.  They will ask you a “question” and they want you to answer it by sharing either a situation or a task that you were involved in (either in a personal situation or at your workplace), then include the actions you took and the results you achieved.  Thus the star.  So, let’s break it down by including some examples.

1)      The first question she asked was, “Give me an example of a job you had where quality and/or accuracy was very important”.

·         A possible answer from me should have been (t), “Each month, at my previous job with a furniture store, I calculated the commissions for all of the sales people”.  Here I had placed myself squarely in the middle of a task.

·         I would then add, (a) “I created an excel work sheet, on the Great Plains software I worked with, that allowed me to input their commissions on a daily basis and have their totals calculated for me by month end”.  All right, that’s a strong action, this doesn’t seem so hard.

·         And finally, I would finish with, (r) “This saved me time but, most of all it provided a precise accounting of their work and they could be accurately paid”.  Great finish with a result that impacted people’s paychecks. This is always a reason to be especially accurate.

2)      Let’s try one more example.  Another question I was asked, “Tell me about a time you dealt with a frustrated/upset customer”.

(s) “A woman stormed into the furniture store I worked at angry and complaining about a side lever that had broken off of a La-Z-Boy chair she had just purchased.  The chair had cost her a fortune and she had been assured it was top quality.”

·         (a) “I remained calm while I apologized for this inconvenience and assured her I would do everything I could to help get this resolved.  I found the number for the Lazy Boy rep and we gave them a call. These types of warranty difficulties go through a manufacturer like La-Z-Boy.I made arrangements for the part to be shipped to us and have our Service Department do the repair.  I told her that we would be by to pick up the chair that afternoon but the delivery of the part and subsequent repair would take about 3-4 days.  Again, I apologized for any inconvenience this would cause her.

(r) “The customer had composed herself at this point and told me that this was truly an inconvenience (she had purchased the recliner to have it in time for her son’s graduation), but that because I had been so kind to help her with the situation she would return to our store again in the future.”

Had I answered the questions in my first interview with such thoroughness I know the Human Resources person would not have had to prod me along.  Needless to say, I didn’t get that job but I am now armed with all the information I need to be a STAR in my future interviews.

Operating Environment Of Offshore Petroleum Rigs

April 30th, 2009

Oil is one of the very important fossil fuels that man relies on to power up their residences and their industries. This oil that we use comes from two sources. One source can be found on the land oil fields, and the other can be found underneath ocean beds. Oil from beneath the sea beds is sucked upwards through by offshore oil rigs found in many oceans around the world. There are a wide variety of oil rig jobs for people of various {skill levels|backgrounds}.

Many people may be wondering what life is like on these offshore oil rigs, which is akin to a life working at sea. Holding down a job at an offshore oil rig is very different from a desk job. People who work in offshore oil rigs need to be physically fit, have the ability to make quick decisions, and have a great deal of endurance, as this job is an exciting and hazardous one undertaken on platforms high above the ocean.

Not all offshore oil rigs are far-off from the shore; some can be found some 300 feet beyond the coast, while others are situated further out to sea. Offshore oil rigs are built with tall metal legs that hold up platforms housing the rig’s essential machinery and equipment.

Offshore oil rigs, being quite a distance from the shore, are equipped with housing and supplies for all the people that work on it 24 hours a day. Offshore oil rig jobs often include personell specifically for electrical needs. Offshore oil rigs normally have their own electrical plants which supply the power needed for workers to complete their work. Some bigger-sized rigs even have their own desalination plants used to convert salt water and purify it for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and washing.

To comply with environmental safety standards, each offshore oil rig comes equipped with a treatment plant to get rid of all the wastes accumulated by both the oil rig workers and the rig’s equipment.

Roustabouts and other employees know what they are getting into. Workers in offshore oil rigs are faced with a lot of risks everyday, such as fire and rough weather. However, you will also be compensated well for the risks you will be taking. Most offshore oil rigs provide comfortable quarters for their workers that some have described as equivalent to four-star hotels. Workers who live and work at offshore oil rigs have their quarters a good distance away from the rig’s machinery and equipment to lower the risks of fire.

Apart from the comfortable quarters, offshore oil rig workers are provided with food catering services, as well as free laundry and cleaning. Also on stand-by are medical and safety crews whose job is to oversee the health and safety of all offshore oil rig workers.

Why A CV Sample Must Be Relevant For You

April 30th, 2009

Finding a CV sample on the Internet is not difficult. Enter the term, CV Sample,î in the search engine of your choice and you will receive millions of relevant results. However, figuring out how to adapt these samples for your own use can be much more difficult. Knowing how to choose a CV sample is the key. In this article, you will learn how to modify a CV sample to make it ideal for your own situation. You can start the process of finding a CV sample by including terms specific to your industry in the search and this will make it much easier to modify the resumes for your own use. This is because the results you will receive from this more specific search will be more similar to the type of CV you really need and therefore easier to adapt in a way that is relevant. Another advantage of this method is you will find CVs which demonstrate the most important skills in your field. Based on this information, you will find it is not at all difficult to make slight modifations which make your own experiences and skills really shine. You can also visit websites of successful companies in your field and looking at the CVs they have available online. These CVs will be actual resumes of successful individuals in your field. These CVs can still be used as samples though because they demonstrate appropriate formats as well as important skills. Regardless of the fact that you are using a CV sample to create your own CV, you should always take care to ensure everything on your own CV is truthful and accurate. You may think it is a good idea to copy information from a sample directly but this is not a good idea. It can also result in many problems for you if the employer hires you with unrealistic expectations about your capabilities. A CV that overstates you abilities will result in your employer assuming you can handle responsibilities you may not be capable of handling.

Guides-Help Students!

April 30th, 2009

The education department of the city has decided to create a new commission that will basically handle the counseling tasks for students and youngsters. There are huge number of colleges, institutions and universities across the country. But there is no such place that guides and counsels the student in terms of the choice of career path to be taken. Choosing a right career path is very important. It is even more essential than training of various vocational courses. Choosing a right career path means following ones interests and dreams. It is really very vital to choose a right career path lest you engage yourself in the field that is not at all of your interest. Once you are in the right field, you always wanted to be in, it increases your interest for the subjects and also it boosts up your efficiency to perform well. To attain this task, government has first included the counselors of not so trendy career options. About engineering and medical field everybody is conscious. But for streams like electronics, architecture and construction students need to be counseled well. There are many students with pioneering thinking and creative minds, who need to be guided so as to be at the right place and proper career stream. Melrose Park Electricians, for example, would be guiding the students to take electronics as the career path if they think that electronics is the field they want to go for. On the other hand, Melrose Park Roofers, would prove to be a great counselors as they will not only help students to clarify them the career and progress in the field of roofing, but will also help them identify and explore the innovative part of their minds. In the end, I would like to wind up with a compliment to the Melrose Park Plumbers (Need one? click here!), who will not be new in this field. Earlier they were delivering seminars and trainings to others, and now they will be guiding students about the scope of being in the field of Plumber.

Searching For The Best Work At Home Job For You

April 30th, 2009

It is the in thing at present.  Globally, teleworking has become the newest craze among job hunters.  Prior to examining what telecommuting careers are on hand, let’s see what it means to telecommute.  Telecommuting is all about working away from the traditional office environment, making use of gadgetry invented thanks to the advances made in the field of telecommunications technology.  Faxes, modems, and the Internet take prominence in this context..

As telecommuting involves working away from traditional office, the best place for this type of work is one’s home.  This explains why telecommuting careers are also known as work at home jobs. You could work from the comfort of your home without commuting to work and binding yourself to set working hours.  The Internet is a haven for telecommuting work.  However, it has to be remembered that Internet is also a hunting grounds of scammers. Hence, precaution must be applied when looking for jobs on the Net.

Writing and editing as a freelancer takes a prominent place among the jobs on offer in the field of working home jobs.  For experienced journalists and writers who are dead set on pursuing telecommuting careers, opportunities are galore. More and more businesses are offering such work since it cuts both ways.  On the one hand it reduces the costs on the part of the company.  Also, it is an advantage to the teleworker as it is easy to work from home.  Various large newspapers and magazines have taken on increasing number of freelancers in preference of full time employees.

Business outsourcing is another one of telecommuting careers which rake in shekels to the employee.  In this instance, becoming a call center agent is profitable as your work is home based.  The availability of internet based telephony has made this work all the more easier.  Thirty-five hours of work a week will earn you around two thousand dollars a  month.    For people who are willing to work from home, working as a call center agent is rapidly becoming a good option to consider.

Skilled programmers and web developers are in great demand nowadays as freelancers. Virtual assistants, web designers and graphic designers have many good openings too.  This goes to prove that telecommuting careers are established now.

Business Opportunity is Knocking. When to Answer!

April 29th, 2009

Making money online is not rocket science. It is, however, not as simple as signing up for an opportunity and waiting fot the money to arrive in your mailbox. There are so many opportunities, ebooks, marketers, and websites available that it can really become confusing as to what or who to believe.

I suggest that you find opportunities based on the following criteria.

1. Make sure the opportunity is selling a legitimate product.

There are so many money making options out there that are just simply a game where you join and hand money uphill and hope that someone will hand you money. There is usually no product for sale and if there is it is basically some ebooks that are already widely available for free. This works for the first few people who join and cycles fast before fizzling out forever.

2. Is the business opportunity successful and does it provide good support to it’s affiliates.

Ask questions of other affiliates or participants of the opportunity you are interested in. You should be able to decide whether the opportunity is a good choice based on the opinions or support you recieve from those who are already involved.

3. Has the opportunity already flooded the market or is there still room to grow?
Some programs can grow forever without fading and others have a specific market sharepoint before they will drop off. It is always best to get in to a program when it is new so that you are helping it to grow. This is very true for multi-level programs because you want to market them before the internet is already saturated with the opportunity.

4. Is the opportunity a longterm choice or will it fade in a few months.

Normally if the product is a good choice for the consumers then the business will thrive. If the only thing keeping the business running is the flood of new affiliates trying to make money, it will slow to a halt after the money making interest is gone. I suggest always asking yourself if you would buy the product.

5. How much time and money will I need to invest to succeed?

This is more of a personal question and can be different for everyone. Most programs will perform with a direct relationship with the amount of time or money you spend on your marketing efforts. You may need to provide your own website or they may provide one for you. Make sure you research all the upfront costs involved before committing. If you spend more money you may be able to spend less time and vice versa.

6. Pick an opportunity that revolves around an interest or expertise you may have.

The more interested you are the more time you will be willing to spend and the more experience you have the more supportive you can be when trying to get others involved. There are so many opportunities avalable that you are bound to find several that spark your interest.

7. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

These are the rules I use when picking an opportunity to pursue. Use these and some focus and a little hard work and you should be able to start making a profit rather quickly.

Brand New information About leads on line

April 29th, 2009

There are two different types of MLM leads. MLM stands for multi-level marketing ; This is a system of profit funneling that provides residual profits for people who make sales. Sales generated in multi-level marketing are made as a result of leads. One type is called the unqualified lead and the other is called the qualified lead. The unqualified lead is just about anyone you talk to that has not really expressed an interest in your operation directly.

However, unqualified leads take your contact information. Therefore, they can turn into what is called qualified leads, which are the type who are genuinely interested in the program, product, or services you have to offer. The difference between a qualified MLM lead and an unqualified lead can be further explained with examples. The unqualified MLM lead usually is a person you met in a coffee shop, on the street, in a class, or at a job. They usually will take your business card to be polite. They may also be taking your card because they want to connect with you socially. The qualified lead may be someone who had initiated the contact with you. For instance, they may sign up to receive more information via e-mail, or they may actually order a product or service from you.

No matter what type of MLM leads you have obtained, the process of closing deals with them is very unpredictable. You can get one person -a qualified lead-who signs up to receive free information who later says no to your offer. On the contrary, you can wind up making a sale with someone else who originally had no idea that you existed. Therefore, you are wise to choose your words carefully with every lead you get. The trick is balance. Never appear over-confident, but at the same time you need to come off as being competent.

Also never take your existing customers for granted. Not taking your prospect and customers for granted is the number one key to helping you earn quite a bit of money. Also, it is important that you be there for them and answer any questions they may have. If you do not have all the answers, you may want to direct your leads to someone who does have the answers. Let them contact or meet some of the most experienced top earners in the industry. Then, tell them how to consult with those top earners and let these top earners help sell some of the better earning programs for you. You also can visit You Tube.com and review various videos regarding all aspects of network marketing. You can find your own qualified leads in various ways.

One of the ways is by taking advantage of different types of effective low-cost and free internet promotions. The other way is to purchase access to leads already being processed. You can sign up to become a part of a qualified marketing system who will automatically generate leads for you. Additionally, they will follow-up on those leads for you. Either way, you still need to choose your words carefully, as it can make all the difference in the world. MLM leads are the easiest way to build a large MLM organization. MLM leads are the life blood of your MLM business, and, without them, your MLM business will be nowhere. What’s important is knowing the SOURCE of the MLM lead before even picking up the phone will make ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world whether you close that sell or not.

Prospects may have responded to an online advertisement and have filled out a survey form to find a home-based business of their own-Prospects that are waiting for YOU to call them to answer their questions or even to help them get started! Prospects want to feel at ease. And while they are skeptical and treat you that way, you should never return the favor. Prospects may be called and questioned by telemarketers. Only those people who are extremely excited about starting their own home business are classified as phone verified leads. Business opportunity leads are probably one of my favorites because they are targeted. If I was still buying leads, I’d go with this one. Business owners must also understand the product or service, the company mission statement, and its goals and objectives well enough to offer a good sales presentation. Delivering a presentation, however compelling, to someone that has not shown interest in the product, service, or business opportunity is a waste of time and resources. Free MLM leads are available through friends, acquaintances and members of family. Such a kind of recruitment is the most simple one, especially for newbies, who should consider it as training. Generating leads is “made for the Net.”.

But that’s not the way matters have unfolded.Because everyone in the industry has tried to force offline methods, online. Generating mlm leads is a science and an art. The science is putting the right kinds of offers in front of the right kind of people. Generating your own MLM leads means that you are going to be able to tailor your leads to your specific MLM business. This means that you will not be paying someone else to generate a list of leads that may be quite generic.

Start Affiliate Business. Useful Facts to Consider

April 29th, 2009

How To Avoid Getting Your Adsense Account Terminated
How to start affiliate business
Google, being the undisputable leader in search engines from then until now, is placing a high importance on the quality and relevancy of its search engines. Most especially now that the company is public property. In order to keep the shareholders and users of its engines happy, the quality of the returned results are given extreme importance.

For this same reason, doing the wrong things in the Adsense and other forms of advertisements, whether intentionally or unintentionally, will result in a severe penalty, may get you banned and even have your account terminated. Nothing like a good action taken to keep wrongdoers from doing the same things over again.

So for those who are thinking of getting a career in Adsense, do not just think of the strategies you will be using to generate more earnings. Consider some things first before you actually get involved.

Hidden texts. Filling your advertisement page with texts to small to read, has the same color as the background and using css for the sole purpose of loading them with rich keywords content and copy will earn you a penalty award that is given to those who are hiding links.

Page cloaking. There is a common practice of using browser or bot sniffers to serve the bots of a different page other than the page your visitors will see. Loading a page with a bot that a human user will never see is a definite no-no. This is tricking them to click on something that you want but they may not want to go to.

Multiple submissions. Submitting multiple copies of your domain and pages is another thing to stay away from. For example, trying to submit a URL of an Adsense as two separate URL’s is the same as inviting trouble and even termination. Likewise, this is a reason to avoid auto submitters for those who are receiving submissions. Better check first if your domain is submitted already an a certain search engine before you try to submit to it again. If you see it there, then move on. No point contemplating whether to try and submit there again.

Link farms. Be wary of who and what are you linking your Adsense to. The search engines know that you cannot control your links in. But you can certainly control what you link to. Link farming has always been a rotten apple in the eyes of search engines, especially Google. That is reason enough to try and avoid them. Having a link higher than 100 on a single page will classify you as a link farm so try and not to make them higher than that.

Page rank for sale. If you have been online for quite some time, you will notice that there are some sites selling their PR links or trading them with other sites. If you are doing this, expect a ban anytime in the future. It is okay to sell ads or gain the link. But doing it on direct advertisement of your page rank is a way to get on search engines bad side.

Doorways. This is similar to cloaking pages. The common practice of a page loaded with choice keyword ads aimed at redirecting visitors to another “user-friendly” page is a big issue among search engines. There are many seo firms offering this kind of services. Now that you know what they actually are, try to avoid them at all costs.

Multiple domains having the same content. In case you are not aware of it, search engines look at domains IP’s, registry dates and many others. Having multiple domains having the same exact content is not something you can hide from them. The same goes with content multiplied many times on separate pages, sub domains and forwarding multiple domains to the same content.

Many of the above techniques apply to most search engines and is not entirely for Google only. By having a mind set that you are building your Adsense together with your pages for the human users and not for bots, you can be assured of the great things for your ads and sites.

Not to mention avoiding the wrath of the search engines and getting your Adsense and site account terminated altogether.
